Niger Police Claims Bandits Come Into State From Kaduna, FCT

The Niger State Police Command has said the minimal cases of banditry in the hinterland of the state are carried out by bandits from neighbouring states of Kaduna, Katsina and the Federal Capital Territory.

The command Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Daninna disclosed this in an interview with THE WHISTLER on Friday.

According to Daninna, these bandits come into the state, strike and go, adding however, that the command was doing everything possible to see that the trend was brought to the barest minimum.

The command’s spokesman noted that while the challenges of kidnappings only happen in the hinterland of the state, the command was restrategising on its security architecture in collaboration with Kaduna, Katsina and other neighbouring states in order to respond to the threats.

“The command is doing everything possible to see this trend of kidnapping is brought to the barest minimum. It will interest you to know that we are just victims of what is happening in our neighbouring states. Last Friday the commissioner of police   and heads of other security agencies went to the hinterland of the state where these bandits will strike and go back to. That is one of the challenges that we face. All these things happen at the hinterland.

“We identify that there are some challenges out there in the hinterland and we have to keep restrategising our security architecture  to make sure that we respond to these threats even though these people come hit and go, and no matter how you do, you cannot go outside your jurisdiction, there have to be collaboration between Kaduna, Katsina, FCT and others in carrying out such operations.

“So, the command is busy enough particularly in the area of partnership and collaboration. Just yesterday, the CP was in Suleja where he went and commissioned some vehicles donated by the chairman of the local government.

“For the chairman to have donated vehicles and motorcycles to the police and other security agencies, you should know that he did not just wake up and said let me do this, there has to be consultations and engagement.

“These are some of the reaching out the command is doing. Also, people have to see the security as a collective responsibility, not only on the security agencies because if everybody just said, let’s wait for the security agencies without collaborating and giving them information, before you know something can happen before the police could go there, because you fail to carry out your own obligation.”
