Nigeria @ 61 : My Country Is A Sleeping Giant With Bright People, Says Canadian Minister

Nigerian-born Canadian Minister of Justice and Solicitor General for Alberta, Kelechi Madu, has expressed hope that his homeland would become a force to reckon with globally someday.

In his Independence Day message to Nigerians, he described the country as a “sleeping giant” that is endowed with natural and human resources.

“The people of this sleeping giant(Nigeria) are exceedingly blessed with human and natural resources. They are hardworking, bright and resilient. I am rooting for their liberation and success so that they can achieve their God-given potential. I wish them a very happy celebration,” he stated via his Facebook page on Friday.

Madu explained that the country was experiencing troubling times, a claim President Muhammadu Buhari confirmed during his Independence Day address to the nation.

“I extend my best wishes to my country of birth, Nigeria on its 61st Independence Day Celebration today October 1. While no one doubts that the country has drifted into dangerous territory, I have always been an eternal optimist about the future of the ordinary people of Nigeria,” Madu stated.

Furthermore, Madu advised that fixing the country lies squarely with visionary leadership.

He added that such leadership has to see the potentials domiciled in every section of the country.

“I look forward to a new and reimagined leadership with the vision, capacity and good intentions to think through the entire country from the rainforest of the South East, to the cocoa plantation of the South West, the mountains of Plateau and the desert plains of the North,” he stated.
