Nigeria, Others Barred From 2021 Hajj As Saudi Arabia Limits Attendance To 60,000

Pilgrims from Nigeria and other countries would not have the opportunity to travel for hajj this year.

The kingdom of Saudi Arabia has limited attendance to this year’s Hajj to 60,000 persons.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the attendees will be residents and nationalities within the country.

“The Total Number of pilgrims this year is limited to ONLY 60,000 people, for residents of all nationalities and citizens inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” it stated.

The decision was reached as part of measures geared towards sustaining public health advisory on Covid-19.

It also added that evidence of vaccination would be a major requirement for those willing to attend.

“Those wishing to perform the hajj must be free of chronic diseases and be vaccinated.

“The health status of those wishing to register for Hajj 1442 must be from the following categories: a vaccinated person, a vaccinated person who has completed one dose and spent 14 days, or a vaccinated person recovering from infection,” the statement read in part.
