Nigeria Will Sign More Bilateral Air Service Agreement By 2021, Says Sirika

Africa’s largest economy targets signing more Bilateral and Multilateral Air Services Agreement by 2021, a move which would help air travelers and the growing aviation industry, the Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika said.

The development comes as the country plans launching a national carrier and improving revenues from the sector.

“More Bilateral/Multilateral Air Services Agreement would be signed in 2021 for the benefit of our nation,” Sirika said in a statement on Thursday.

Sirika said this when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation for the 2021 Budget defence.

Nigeria had earlier this year signed the instrument of ratification of the Bilateral Air Service Agreement with USA, India, Morocco and Rwanda.

The ministry of aviation proposed N78bn on capital expenditure, including the development of a national carrier.

The minister  said the funds would be channeled into the establishment of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility; development of Agro Cargo Infrastructure and the establishment of Aviation Leasing Company.

By next year, the ministry will also establish an Aerospace University with support from the International Civil Aviation Organisation, from the fund.
