Nigerian Gov’t Shuts Down Supermarket Over Coronavirus 

Following the outbreak of the coronavirus in China and its spread to several countries, Nigeria’s Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission( FCCPC) has shut down Panda Supermarket at Jabi, in the federal capital Abuja, for illegally importing goods from China.

According to the commission in a tweet on Wednesday, abundance of seafood and animals imported from China were discovered in the supermarket, located in jabi, Abuja.

Products with expired & irregular shelf life were also discovered at Panda Supermarket, Jabi, Abuja yesterday.

It also added that it discovered products with expired and irregular shelf life were also imported into the country.

The Director-General of the commission, Babatunde Irukera, listed  some of the expired food items to include pork, rice, mushrooms, chicken, gizzard, among others.

Irukera noted that the move was to serve as a deterrent to others and to safeguard the lives of citizens, especially as the China coronavirus continues to spread.

Meanwhile Coronavirus, which is like the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), is contacted through human-to-human transmission and has infected more than 1000 people in China and the death toll has risen to over 106.
