Nigerian Lady Who Died In Cote d’Ivoire Prison Buried In Ibadan

The remains of Itunun Babalola, who died in Cote d’ Ivoire detention, have been buried at the Sango Cemetery, Ibadan.

The lady who was known as Becky Paul in Abidjan was buried in Ibadan on Saturday.

The TOS hearse which brought the brown casket containing the body of the 24-year-old lady arrived at around 9:35am.

The lid of the sealed casket was removed by the family to inspect the corpse and after they had confirmed the corpse to be that of Itunun, they asked the cleric to go on with the funeral.

The Most Superior Evangelist, Daniel Otakoya of the Celestial Church of Christ, Agbowo Archdiocesan Headquarters conducted the brief funeral service held at the cemetery.

He urged everybody present to imbibe the spirit of the fear of the Lord because everybody would give account of their stewardship on the last day.

The elder brother of the deceased, Olaolu Babalola, who spoke to journalists said his sister was deliberately killed and called on the government to ensure that justice is served in the case.

The Head of Media, Nigeria Diaspora Commission, Rahman Balogun, who represented the Chairman of the commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, led the delegation of the Federal Government that brought the corpse of the lady to the cemetery.

He said the Federal Government insisted that autopsy must be conducted to ascertain the cause of the death because they suspected a foul play.

The delegation visited the family of the deceased at University of Ibadan after the burial where they handed documents brought to the father of the deceased.

The lady’s apartment was said to have been burgled by a burglar while she came to Nigeria in 2019.

The case was reported at a police station in Abidjan but the DPO was said to be a cousin of the suspect and the case was turned from burglary to alleged human trafficking against the Nigerian.

She was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and was said to have been tortured until she took ill and died on November 14, 2021.
