The lawmaker representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ibe Osonwa, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening diaspora relations and fostering international collaboration, following a high-profile meeting with the Lord Mayor of Islington, Chancellor Jason Jackson, in London.

Osonwa, who disclosed details of the visit which was held on Friday, said the engagement was both “inspiring and forward-looking,” offering fresh opportunities for cooperation between his constituency and the borough of Islington, where Jackson presides as Mayor.

The meeting carried special personal and cultural significance, as Chancellor Jackson traces his maternal heritage to the Arochukwu/Ohafia area of Abia State.

According to Osonwa, this connection underscored the power of shared roots in uniting people across borders and generations.

“It was a deeply meaningful experience for me, not just politically but personally. Sitting across from someone whose lineage connects directly to our soil reminded me of the power of heritage and the responsibility we carry to build bridges that uplift our people—both at home and abroad,” Osonwa said.

The lawmaker added that his engagement in the United Kingdom reflects a broader vision to internationalise opportunities for his people while positioning Arochukwu/Ohafia as an active partner in global development conversations.
