Nigerian Soldiers ‘Serially Rape’ 14-Year-Old Boko Haram Victim In Borno

A 14-year-old girl simply identified as Falmata was “serially raped” by Nigerian soldiers after she escaped Boko Haram captivity.

Falmata, who prior to her escape had suffered several cases of sexual abuse in the hands of Boko Haram insurgents, is reported to have had an even worse encounter with soldiers at Dalori IDPs camp in Borno State.

“The same day I was brought there, soldiers started coming to rape me,” Falmata was quoted as saying by the New York Times.

“They did it one after another. I’m not even sure those two knew about each other,” she said.

The news platform also quoted another 13-year-old girl as saying she was raped no less than 1o times in 2017 at a camp in Borno by the troops.

“The soldiers would come and hold me so tight,” she said.

The newspaper further reported that the security forces have a system of selecting their rape victims.

It quoted sources in one of the camps as saying, “Young women were called to cook for them.

“After the women finished, security officers insisted that they clean up, telling them to go bathe in the officers’ quarters as the men watched.”

Another 18-year-old girl who narrated her ordeal to the newspaper said she was molested by men “old enough to be my parents,” adding that, “At first none of us knew they were doing this.”

“But then the stories started to spread around camp that anyone cooking for them would be raped,” Hadiza said.
