Nigerians Getting Poorer Because They’re Governed By Ineffective Leaders – Moghalu

Kingsley Moghalu, a professor of international business and public policy at the Tufts University, United States America, has said that the poor living conditions of Nigerians is a ripple effect of ineffective governance at federal, state and local levels.

He said this in a tweet on his official Twitter account on Tuesday.

Moghalu contested for the position of the Nigerian president at the 2019 general elections under the Young Progressive Party (YPP), garnering 21,886 votes.

According to him, the negative realities in the country is calling for a better style of leadership and governance, but added that the ability of Nigerian leaders to bring progressive change in the nation is dependent on their worldview.

He explained that when a narrow minded leader is in power at any level, “governance” will mean the exercise of political authority in servicing sectarian objective at the expense of real governance.

This, according to him, will “make peace and stability – fundamental conditions for good governance— difficult.”

He said that the country may continue to experience various forms of crisis if Nigerians keep electing leaders who has regional or sectarian bias.

However, he said that Nigeria can only experience sustainable breakthroughs when government delivers on its promises by providing at least, the basic needs of its citizens such as security, healthcare, education and inclusive economic growth.

He also pinpointed that making excuses is proof of ineffective governance.
