Nigerians In Ireland, US, 3 Others To Get National Identity Cards-NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has said that it has extended the issuance of National Identity Number to Nigerian citizens living in Togo, Niger Republic, Ivory Coast and the Republic of Ireland.

NIMC issued a press release on Wednesday via the General Manager, Operations and Communication, Abdulhamid Umar, via its twitter handle, @nimc_ng.

According to the statement, the commission has the mandate to ensure that all Nigerian citizens and legal residents are enrolled into the National Identity Database and issued the unique National Identification Number (NIN) upon successful enrolment.

Legal residence, based on law, is the residence where a person has permanent home or principal establishment and to where, whenever such persons are absent, can intend to return.

According to NIMC, the enrolment in the aforementioned countries are in partnership with Kevonne consults Limited, Slogani Consults Nigeria Limited and Knowledge Square Nigeria Limited, all Nigerian owned companies licensed to serve as agents of NIMC across the globe.

The statement also reads: “It should be recalled that the DG/CEO NIMC, Engr Aliyu. A. Aziz reiterated that the program is to make it easier for Nigerians in the Diaspora to be identified as the Federal Government has made the possession of NIN a mandatory requirement for the acquisition/renewal of International Passport, Bank Account Opening, pension services, Land transaction, access to Legal/health services, driver’s license, Exam registration like UTME/DE, access to other government services amongst others.”

“The exercise which will involve the demographic and biometric data capture of Nigerian citizens residing in the four countries commence in Niger Republic on the 20th of December 2019, at institut des Enseignments Proffessionnel et Technique LA-REFERENCE- IEPTR.

It will also commence the exercise in Ivory Coast on the 20th of December, 2019. For Ireland, it will begin by January 14, 2020 while the 10th of December, is for those in the United States of America.
