Nigerians React As Adeboye Says Boko Haram Sponsors Will Die Before 2021

The General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has sparked reactions on social media after praying to God to eliminate sponsors of terrorists in the country before 2021.

Adeboye, who recently made headlines after backing the calls for restructuring of Nigeria, prayed that sponsors of Boko Haram and other acts of terrorism in the country “will not see the new year.”

The revered cleric made the prayer via his verified Twitter account (@PastorEAAdeboye) on Friday morning.

The tweet generated over fifteen thousand reactions (comments, retweets and likes) within one hour of sharing it, as Twitter users disagreed on whether or not prayers alone were enough to address challenges facing the country.

While some Nigerians said ‘amen’ to Adeboye’s prayer, others however challenged the 78-year-old pastor to use his “large platform” to lead a protest against the government.

To buttress his point that prayers alone were not enough, one Twitter user made reference to the March 25, 1965 protest led by the late Martin Luther King, who was the pastor of the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, USA.

Another Twitter user however responded with pictures that showed a ‘protest match’ led by Adeboye in February against killings in the country. Below are some of the reactions:
