Nigerians To Pay N15, 000 To Update NIN Details-NIMC

The Nigeria National Identity Management Commission has said that Nigerians would be charged up to N15, 000 to update as well as to correct their details in the National Identity Number.

The NIMC Regional Coordinator in Alausa, Lagos, Funmi Opensanwo, who was featured on Channels Television programme Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, said that the amount chargeable varies from correction of details like name, address, card renewal or replacement and date of birth.

She said, “The money we charge is for a modification fee. For the date of birth correction, the processing fee is N15, 000. For card renewal or card replacement, there is a processing fee of N5, 000.

“For a modification of your name and address, there is a fee of N5,000.”

Opensanwo in response to alleged reports of the commission demanding illegal fees from Nigerians to link their NIN to their SIM Cards, said that fees are only charged on details updates, adding that the fees are payable to the Treasury Single Account.

Recall, the Nigeria Communications Commission had directed telecommunication service providers to block phone numbers without NIN.

The deadline for submission of NIN which was put at December 30 has since been extended by up to six weeks to February 9, 2021.

The NCC has also cancelled charges on the use of Unstructured Supplementary Service Data for verification across the country.

According to her, the increase in applicants is due to telecommunication companies’ decision to block SIM Cards of individuals whose NIN is not linked to their numbers.

She, however, assured that efforts are ongoing to manage the large number of people at registration centres.
