‘Nigeria’s Best 60th Anniversary Gift’ – Atiku, Obi Laud Israel Adesanya’s UFC Title Defence

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, amongst others, have congratulated Nigerian-born UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, for retaining his title defence on Sunday in Abu Dhabi.

Adesanya knocked out his challenger, Paulo Costa, a Brazilian, in the second round of the fight.

The Nigerian fighter, who has an undefeated record of 20 wins and no losses, was tactical throughout the bout as he kept his distance while unloading kicks and punches on Costa.

Reacting to the UFC middleweight champion’s victory, Atiku described it as the “best 60th independence anniversary gift” for Nigeria.

Former Anambra governor, Obi, also congratulated the Lagos-born champion via his Twitter page.

Also congratulating Adesanya were the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare and the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
