NIN Compulsory For Drivers Licence, Vehicle Registration From April- FG

The National Identification Number will become a compulsory requirement for the  issuance of a fresh driver license and renewal, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Boboye Oyeyemi has said.

The new requirement is also mandatory for all categories of vehicle registration, effective from the second quarter of 2021.

The development comes in compliance with a presidential directive to the commission, according to the FRSC’s Oyeyemi.

This was contained in a monitored tweet released by the FRSC which quoted a release signed by its Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem.

Oyeyemi said, “Beginning from the second quarter of this year (2021), If you want to register your vehicle, it is going to be compulsory for you to provide your NIN.

“This is part of the security checks. So once you provide your NIN, it makes the matter easier and helps the government in national planning, critical decision making and also enhance adequate Intelligence gathering for security of lives and properties.”

The commission said all applicants of vehicle registration are now mandated  to present their NIN as a precondition for the registration of their vehicles.

Oyeyemi added there would be no waiver for anyone irrespective of their status in the society.
