The chairman of Nkanu West LGA, Hon Afam Okereke, yesterday, settled medical bills of patients, distributed food items and toiletries to health centres and babies’ homes to mark Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s birthday.

At Ozalla Health Centre, Hon Okereke settled the hospital bills of one Mrs Lucy Ekwegbalu, and Mrs Amaka Ezenna whose three children – Chukwunonso, Chidalu and Chisimdi – were hospitalized.

At Agbani Health Centre, Hon Okereke donated rolls of pampers to nursing mothers, as well as cash to the sick and staff of the centre.

At Charity Care Babies’ Home, Agbani, the inmates sang ‘happy-birthday’ songs for the governor. Hon Okereke presented them with food items, cartons of Indomie, toiletries, baby care and fruit juice.

He described Governor Ugwuanyi as God-sent, adding that the gesture was the governor’s desire to share with the less privileged in his birthday. According to him, “Gov Ugwuanyi directed that his birthday should be celebrated with the needy, and that it should be devoid of fanfare. In line with this wish, we have come to offer our widow’s mite.”

The officers-in-charge of Charity Care Babies’ Home, Agbani, and the health centres, Mrs Ukamaka Ani, Mrs Onyinye Ogbu and Mrs Ani Stella, thanked Gov Ugwuanyi for his giant strides.
