NNPC Assures Women Of Equal Opportunity

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, has restated the corporation’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for members of its staff irrespective of “colour, tribe, religion or gender”.

Kyari said this when he received a delegation of Women in Energy Network (WIEN) who paid him a visit at the NNPC Towers on Tuesday in Abuja.

The GMD’s assurance came after THE WHISTLER exclusively reported a yet to be announced major redeployment in the NNPC that would see more women grabbing top positions at the national oil firm.

Kyari told the group led by its president, Funmi Ogbe, that experience had thought him that women have enormous potentials and capabilities to deliver on difficult tasks.

“For us as a company and by design, and given the very nature of the job we do, which is to deliver power and energy prosperity to this country, we cannot choose anything less than the best. That best doesn’t know your colour, tribe, religion or gender,” said the GMD.

Ogbe had earlier said the group’s visit to the NNPC Towers was to partner with the management of the organization to enhance energy sufficiency in the country.

“The International Women’s Day was on Sunday and our theme was “Closing the Gap”, and we have come here today to celebrate with you. But more importantly, there is energy gap which you stated in your very eloquent speech at NIPS. So we felt it was quite apt for us to throw our weight behind what you are doing. We would like to work with you and support you in the work you are doing in the energy sector”, she said.

WIEN had on Monday held a Breakfast Session in Lagos to commemorate the 2020 International Women’s Day.
