NNPC Denies Giving Cash Gift To Buhari’s Campaign Group

The Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has isolated its Group Managing Director, Dr Maikanti Baru, from the alleged cash transfer to the President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organization for the purpose of funding the media/publicity department of the exercise.

This is coming a day after the spokesperson for the Campaign Organisation, Festus Keyamo, denied collecting money from the corporation to run the publicity department of the organisation.

The cooperation, however, in a statement issued on Friday by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ndu Ughamdu classified the allegation as a political hallucination induced by some mischievous politicians whose intent is to tug the corporation and its GMD’s into the arena of a partisan political tussle.

The corporation said the claim was not only patently false, but runs against the prevailing gale of transparency and accountability pervading the operations of the NNPC since the advent of the current administration.

“With no regard for the cherished investigative reporting ethos of balance and confirmation of the story, the allegation, without doubt, come across like a kindergarten execution of and ill thought political brinksmanship,’’ the corporation said.

The co-operation further called on members of the public and oil and gas industry stakeholders to disregard the report noting that the Management of the NNPC under Dr. Baru is focused on delivering the aspiration of Mr. President for the petroleum industry.
