NNPC’s Kyari, Baru Consult Buhari At Aso Rock

The new Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr Mele Kyari, and his predecessor, Dr Maikanti Baru, have visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday.

President Buhari, who was the immediate pas substantive minister of petroleum, received Kyari and Baru at his office inside the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

The duo’s visit to the President is coming on the heels of Baru’s handing over of office to Kyari as the 19th GMD of the Corporation.

The immediate past GMD had retired from service on July 7 after reaching the statutory 60 years retirement age.

Meanwhile, Kyari had prior to emerging as the new GMD served as the Group General Manager of Crude Oil Marketing Division of the NNPC.

The new GMD has been the Nigerian National Representative at the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) since 2018.

Kyari had in his inaugural speech on Monday assured Nigerians that the NNPC under his watch will “remain more open, more credible, more focused and more accountable.

“We will deliver all our four refineries within the life of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. We shall seek strategic partnerships to ensure Nigeria becomes a net exporter of petroleum products,” his speech partly read.
