The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has stated that they are not in a hurry to appoint a foreign coach for the Super Eagles.

Speaking during the Federation Cup draws in Abuja at the weekend, Seyi Akinwunmi, first vice-president of the football body disclosed this information, adding that Nigerians should be patient with the NFF.

According to him, football loving Nigerians should wait for the right time as the NFF is working really hard to get a very good coach for the Eagles.

“Nigerians will wait till the time we will have a substantive coach. I can’t say when. Really, that question needs to be directed to the NFF technical committee,” Barrister Akinwunmi stated.

“And we need to understand few things, too. It is not just about getting a coach. If we bring in a coach in from anywhere, the way Nigerians think is this: the day he loses or draws one match, he becomes a villain. The day he wins, he is a hero.

“So, there’s nobody you will bring in that there won’t be a divide. But it is better for us at this stage since we have learnt from the experiences we’ve had in the past few weeks to go to the root of the problem and take our time to solve the root of the problem to come up with a solution.

“Let us not just get a coach, or get one just because we need a coach… because we don’t have an urgency in the next couple of months.

“So, why not let us, within that time to get a coach, look through properly, to look at all the mistakes we may have made, solve them and even if Nigerians say they are not happy, we can point it out that you all asked us to rush but we didn’t. And that this is what we came up with. I think we just need to be patient.

“This short term and we must quickly do this, we must quickly win this, shouldn’t come. Especially now that we have time. Before we didn’t have time because we had to qualify and that was all we wanted at that time.”

According to information gathered by this medium, the NFF may abandon the idea of hiring a foreign coach as the sponsors who were supposed to finance the deal are uncertain of investing their resources.
