‘Not Too Young To Run’ A Fulfillment Of Buhari’s Election Promise – APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed political victory in President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent signing of the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ Bill.

The APC, on Friday, described the signing of the bill as a fulfilment of 2015 election promise by President Buhari.

“This is indeed another promise kept by the president during his 2018 Democracy Day address and in our 2015 APC election manifesto,” said the ruling party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Abdullahi Bolaji.

“We believe the massive support the bill received, particularly from APC members in the National Assembly, speaks volume of the progressive ideals the party continues to identify with and champion, irrespective of partisan considerations and interests.

“This is indeed a major milestone in advocacy efforts to ensure increased participation and inclusion of marginalised groups, in this case the youth in Nigerian politics,” said Bolaji.

Abdullahi further described the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “kill-joy” for asking President Buhari to not take glory for what wasn’t his ideology.

“Our party is happy to share this victory with all Nigerians who desire to see a better future for our youths. However, we probably need to remind the PDP that it is still a minority in the national assembly,” said the APC spokesperson.

The Not Too Young To Run Bill, which became a law after President Buhari assented to it on the 31st of May 2018, was sponsored in the House of Representatives by a PDP Reps member, Hon. Tony Nwulu and Sen. AbdulAziz Nyako in the Senate.
