Nothing Wrong With Buhari’s Letter On Osinbajo As ‘Coordinator’ – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has described as “needless distraction”, the controversy that has marred President Muhammadu’s letter on Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as Nigeria’s Coordinator of Affairs.

Mr. Mohammed stated this on Wednesday while addressing State House correspondents at the end of today’s Federal Executive Council, FEC, presided by Osinbajo at the Council Chamber, Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to the minister, President Buhari’s action is in line with Section 145 of the Nigerian constitution.

“The whole thing is a needless controversy and distraction, the operative word is Section 145 of the constitution which the president has already referred to,” Mr. Mohammed said.

Recall that concerns were raised from different corners across the country after Senate President, Bukola Saraki read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari officially informing the Legislative arm of his latest medical trip to the United Kingdom.

The President in the latter stated that while he is away, for a yet to be determined period, Mr. Osinbajo would coordinate the affairs of government, with many believing the choice of words may affect the status of the VP, who is expected to be ‘Acting President’ in Buhari’s absence.
