NPA Unveils Electronic Platform To Combat Gridlock In Lagos Ports

The perennial gridlock in Apapa and Tin Can ports is expected to reduce with the launch of an electronic truck Call-up system by the Nigerian Ports Authority.

The Authority said the resulting app for running the electronic truck call- up was the “Eto app” which truck owners and transporters must install.

The authority disclosed this in a tweet on Friday.

The Federal Government had in November 2020 said that the traffic at the Apapa port would be resolved by the first quarter of 2021.

The government had said that machines were already in place to solve the over ten years problem.

Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council, Hassan Bello said it was approaching it in a scientific manner.

“The Authority is pleased to announce the commencement of Eto, the Electronic Truck call-up system designed for the management of truck movement and access to and from the Lagos Ports Complex and the Tin Can Island Ports, Apapa, Lagos.”

NPA said all trucks doing business at the ports would be required to stop at the approved truck parks subject to when they are called up into the port through the Eto app.

The authority explained that the Eto app would be responsible for the scheduling, entry and exit of all trucks into the ports with effect from February 27, 2021.

NPA said, “All transporters, trucks owners and truck drivers will be required to download the Eto App from Google play store or sign up at https://t.co/fYbOgUQKhD before the commencement date to enable them register accordingly.”
