NPFL Match Day 36: Plateau United Stay Top, Enyimba Humiliate Wikki

Plateau United maintained their spot at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) for the 36th matchday this season despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Rivers United at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos on Saturday.

Emeka Ogbugh opened the scoring for the visitors in the 14th minute before the Peace Boys drew level through Peter Eneji’s 89th-minute goal.

In the other matches played over the weekend, 2nd placed MFM who are 4 points behind league leaders failed to capitalise on Plateau United’s slip up as they fell 0-1 to Abia Warriors in Umuahia.

Meanwhile in Calabar, The race for third place got interesting as Enyimba thrashed visiting Wikki Tourists 4-0 to maintain the joint third position with Akwa United.

Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, Stephen Chukwude, Chinonso Okonkwo and Stanley Dimgba scored for the Aba based club who are now tied on points and goal difference with third-place Akwa United on 57 points.

Akwa United pipped Lobi Stars 2-1 while Rangers defeated Remo Stars 2-1. Shooting Stars held El-Kanemi Warriors to a 1-1 draw in Maiduguri while Kano Pillars lost 1-0 to Nasarawa United.

Sunshine Stars were defeated 2-0 by Katsina United while Gombe United beat ABS 2-1.

The game between Niger Tornadoes and FC Ifeanyi Ubah was postponed to Monday due to heavy downpour in Lokoja.
