NSCDC Denies Attacking Civilians At Angulu-Ama Creek

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has denied its operatives were involved in the attack on innocent people at Angulu-Ama Creek in Asari Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

THE WHISTLER gathered that gunmen dressed in NSCDC uniform allegedly killed one person and injured five others at the creek on Sunday evening.

But NSCDC said it was not involved in the attack.

Speaking on behalf of the Rivers State Commandant, Assistant Commandant of the corps, Ogutuase Micheal, in a statement on Tuesday said the attack was launched by unknown gunmen dressed in NSCDC uniform.

According to him, the attackers boarded three 200-horsepower boats to the creek and opened fire at innocent citizens in the area.

“Contrary to the accusations from some quarters that the attackers were Civil Defence personnel, the command hereby declare that it is not true as it does not owe nor have any boat with such engine capacity, nor has it carried out surveillance operations along that area for some time now.

“The attack has got no link to the NSCDC. Therefore, the general public is hereby advised to disregard such insinuations and claims and to see it as misleading and untrue, ” the statement said.
