NSCDC Seals Two Illegal Security Companies In Anambra

Two private security companies in Anambra State, said to be operating illegally, were Thursday sealed by the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command.

The security companies, Globe 999 Security Ltd, located at 49 Ugwunabankpa road, Onitsha, and Usbest Security Ltd, located at 35 Onitsha-Owerri road, Onitsha, were closed down for allegedly breaching the code of conduct governing the operations of private guard companies and for operating without valid licences.

The PRO, NSCDC, Anambra State Command, ASC Edwin Okadigbo, said the action was in line with the NSCDC’s Amended Act 2007, which empowers the corps to ‘regulate, monitor and supervise the operations of private guard companies’.

He said, “The affected private guard companies were given enough notice/ warning through letters addressed to both companies on the need to revalidate and renew their operational licences. By this sealing, the companies concerned are expected to disengage operations, and should not either directly or indirectly render any security services to any individual, group or corporate body in whatsoever way.”

THE WHISTLER gathered that the sealing operations were led by the command’s head of private guards, DCC Benedict Onyeaghala.

Meanwhile, the state commandant of the NSCDC, Comdt David Bille, has implored the general public to demand licences of operations of private guard companies before engaging their services. He also urged members of the public to visit the state command’s headquarters in Awka to confirm registered private security companies to avoid falling into wrong hands.
