Nsukka Women Demand Recall Of NASS Members For Abandoning Constituents After Herdsmen Attacks

Some women of Enugu North senatorial zone, in their thousands, Monday, protested what they called ‘the poor performance’ of the senator representing the zone in the National Assembly, Mr Chukwuka Utazi, and his House of Representatives counterpart, Dr Pat Asadu, representing Igboeze South/Nsukka federal constituency.

During the demonstration, they called on the duo to resign and vacate their seats.

They displayed placards with inscriptions, such as ‘Sen Utazi, stop bible quotation and show us your achievements’; Pat Asadu, stop using our children to achieve your selfish political interest’; ‘Enough is Enough’; ‘Pat Asadu, show us your achievements after 16yrs at the National Assembly’.

THE WHISTLER recalls that the Concerned Uzo-Uwani Youth Movement had on 6th September, 2020, passed a vote of no confidence on the lawmakers representing them: Senator Utazi, alongside Hon Martins Okeh of the House of Representatives, and Hon Josephat Okika of the Enugu State House of Assembly because of their alleged poor representations.

According to them, in a release signed by Arumona Christopher, secretary of the movement, the trio had disappointed them.

They claimed in their statement that, “Since over five years of Sen Chuka Utazi in the Nigeria Senate, there is no single capital project in his name across Uzo-Uwani.

The issue of Fulani herders’ notorious activities has been on the neck of the good people of Uzo-Uwani and both legislators for once have not deemed it right to use their offices to draw the attention of the government to our cries.

“They are collecting constituency allowances on our behalf and no single constituency project is standing across Uzo-Uwani in their name. Our youths are unemployed and for once they have never cared as our representatives to make any effort to empower or employ them.

“On April 25th 2016, the Fulani herders attacked Nimbo community and killed many people, burnt down many houses and property.

Till today, both legislators have not cared to stand as the representatives of the people to draw the attention of the government to come to the aid of the affected people.

No house was rebuilt; affected families were not compensated; children who lost their parents in the cause of the attack are roaming about helplessly and some of them are out of school.”
