Obasanjo: I’ll Denounce My Membership Of Coalition For Nigeria If…

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who officially registered as a member of the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) on Thursday, has given conditions for his continued membership of the political movement.

Speaking at the Secretariat of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo said: “I will cease to be a member” of the CNM the moment it transforms into a political party or becomes partisan.

The former president completed his CNM membership form and handed it over to National Coordinator of the political movement, Col. Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Rtd.).¸

He said, “I am happy to be a member of the Coalition for Nigeria Movement which is a movement for good governance.

“This is the commencement of our popular and grassroots association.

“The membership will be free to collectively decide on whether it will become a political party and if it decides to transform itself and go into partisan politics, I will cease to be a member.

“It is necessary to make it clear that this new movement does not regard itself as a third force.

“It sees itself as a popular movement that can accommodate all Nigerians irrespective of their political interest or affiliations and will propel Nigeria forward.

“‘I see a new Nigeria in the hands of God and we will all be witnesses of the emergence of a new Nigeria,’’ said Obasanjo.

The Coalition for Nigeria Movement, which launched on Wednesday, has earned recognition from civil activists and politicians from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
