Obi Of Onitsha Tackles Nnamdi Kanu, Nobody Can Stop Anambra Guber

Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, has broken his long-awaited silence over threat by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to disrupt the governorship election in Anambra State.

Speaking to the State leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo at his palace on Wednesday, Igwe Achebe said IPOB has no right to stop the election.

The traditional ruler insisted that the November 18 gubernatorial election must hold as scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.

He urged the people of Anambra state to exercise their fundamental human rights and cast their votes during the gubernatorial election.

“The election is for us not for the entire country, Igwe Achebe, who doubles as the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Ruler’s Council said.

“You cannot have a referendum in one part of the country without carrying other parts of the country along and the government must support and sponsor it before it will be organized and not curving out some part of the country for the referendum.

“The election must hold and nobody or group of persons will stop it. Nobody should come to the state to cause unnecessary tension.”

The traditional leader called on Igbo people living in other parts of the country to ensure they invest in their home town, so as to make Igbo land an economic hub.

“Our people should come home to invest in industry, factory, build schools and hospitals that will be beneficial to our people. We need non-partisan strong institution to create a good environment for development.

“I commend the new Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership both at the national and state level for their efforts within six months to unite Ndigbo,” Achebe stated.

Recall that earlier in the week, leader of the IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu said that the only way the November governorship election in Anambra state would hold is if Nigeria would is restructured before October 1, 2017.

“There will be no election in Anambra State come November 2017 and going forward there won’t be any election until they give me date for a referendum.

“They know what to do; convene a meeting, I will send my rep; give us a date for referendum, that is the only way.

“In which part of this earth have you ever found a measure of self-determination to be equated to war except in Nigeria because the political leaders do not understand the difference between self determination and war?

“Self-determination does not mean hate speech; the status quo can no longer remain. Like my brother Evangelist Eliot Ugochukwu-Uko said, if on or before October 1 nothing happens in terms of substantial restructuring, then there won’t be any election; the people will support us,” Kanu said.
