OBJ Tackles Buhari Again…Says Few Tribes Controlling Nigeria`s Security

Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has again tackled President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly concentrating the country`s security apparatus in the hands of few ethnic extractions.

Obasanjo, while speaking on Thursday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, frowned at the unevenness in many of President Buhari`s appointments.

The former president said Buhari, by way of making nepotic appointments, has taken “nation building for granted“ and caused citizens from some sections of the country to feel neglected.

Obasanjo decried the disregard for federal character particularly in the president`s appoint of security chiefs.

He said, “Let me emphasise important areas, programmes, priorities or processes for improved attention. To start with, we seem to have taken nation building for granted. Nation building must be given continued attention to give every citizen a feeling of belonging and a stake in his or her country.

“For instance, the Federal Character principle, as espoused in our constitution, was to guide the leadership to search for competent holders of major offices to be distributed within the entire nation, and avoid concentration in a few ethnic hands or geographical places, as we currently have in the leadership of our security apparatus.

“To avoid such non-integrative situation, we have the National Assembly and the Federal Character Commission, both institutions which must raise the alarm or call for correction of actions by the executive that violates the spirit of our constitution.”

Meanwhile, Obasanjo had yesterday registered officially as a member of the Coalition For Nigeria Movement (CNM).

The CNM is a political movement whose objective is to ensure that President Buhari or any recycled politician from the All Progressive Congress (APC) or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not allowed to emerge Nigeria’s president in 2019.
