Official: Nwakali Completes Arsenal Move

Captain of the Nigeria U-20 side, kelechi Nwakali has signed a five-year deal with English Premier League side, Arsenal.

The youngster’s former chief executive at the ASJ Academy, Emeka Amajiriaku confirmed that the 18-year-old Imo State born completed the deal on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.

“Kelechi has signed with Arsenal. It is now a done deal. He signed the contract 3:00pm on Wednesday,” Amajiriaku told allnigeriasoccer.com.

“His mother and brother Allwell were there. Manchester City loanee, Chidiebere Nwakali came all the way from Norway to London to witness his brother signing the contract. ”

The Gunners will reportedly pay a transfer fee of about £2.5 million to his club as part of the deal.

Recall that the midfielder agreed to join the North London club in March, however the deal was not completed as Nwakali was not yet 18.

The midfielder was voted the Most Valuable Player of the U17 World Cup, where he caught the eye of many European clubs, including Arsenal.

“We identified Nwakali as the player of the tournament, basically, and as a top player,” Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said in January.

The Nigerian is likely to play some part in Arsenal’s pre-season, before Arsene Wenger makes a decision on whether he will go out on loan or not.

The new Premier League campaign resumes on Saturday, August 13, with Arsenal’s opening game against Liverpool at the Emirate Stadium.
