Olarinoye Wins Six Gold Medals At Africa Weightlifting Championship

Nigeria’s Florence Olarinoye won six gold medals at the ongoing Africa Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championship in Accra, Ghana.

Olarinoye won all the medals in the 58kg female category.

The 2023 National Youth Games (NYG) gold medallist clinched three gold medals in the Junior and additional 3 gold medals in the Youth events.

Olarinoye who won silver medal at the 2024 National Sports Festival (NSF) in Ogun State, lifted 71kg in snatch and 86kg in clean and jerk as well as a total of 157kg to capture all the six gold medals in both Junior and Youth events.

Her feat brings Nigeria’s total number of medals at the Championship to eight gold and one silver.

It could be recalled that earlier on Monday, Ezenwa Chinaza Cecilia won two gold and a silver medal for Nigeria.

Ezenwa lifted 63kg in snatch, 72kg in clean and jerk and a total of 135kg to raise the curtain for Nigeria’s medal rush.

The athletes will today receive their medals during the medals presentation ceremony at the Ga Mashie Hall, Trust Sports Emporium, Accra

Nigeria’s medals haul at the Championship marks a brighter moment for Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) which on Saturday got new board members following the successful conduct of the 2025 Elective Congress of the Federation which returned Dr Ibrahim Abdul Aladi as President for the next four years.

The 2025 Africa Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championship began in Accra, Ghana’s Capital on Friday August 15 and will end on August 22, 2025.
