Olympics: Germany Ends Dream Team’s Hope For Gold

Captain Max Meyer opened the scoring for the Europeans in the 9th minute, after latching home a clever pass from Serge Gnabry that exposed the Nigerian defence.

Substitute Niels Petersen grabbed the second goal in the 88th minute to seal victory for the Germans and ultimately end Nigeria’s dream of re-living the Atlanta 96’ feat.

Nigeria won gold at the 1996 Olympics with a 3-2 victory over Argentina, before winning silver in 2008, falling 1-0 to Argentina in the final.
