Omah Lay, Tems Free As Uganda Drops Charges Against Nigerian Singers

Nigerian singers Omah Lay and Tems are expected back in Nigeria on Tuesday after passing last night in a Ugandan prison for allegedly flouting the country’s COVID-19 protocols.

The duo was arrested by the Ugandan police after performing at a sold-out concert in the East African country.

But following the intervention of the Nigerian Government, the charges against the singers were reportedly dropped on Tuesday afternoon.

THE WHISTLER gathered that the charges were dropped after “a diplomatic intervention” at the highest level was held between the Nigerian and Ugandan authorities.

The #FreeTemsAndOmahLay hashtag had trended at number one spot on Twitter on Tuesday as Nigerians, including celebrities and politicians, demanded the release of the singers from detention.

The duo who was arrested after performing at the convert tagged “The Big Brunch”, are expected to be flown out of Uganda to Nigeria tonight.

Meanwhile, organizers of the show are said to still be in the Ugandan police detention.
