Omojuwa Explains What Is Missing In Nigeria’s Constitution Review, Comments Attract Twitter Reactions

Despite calls for restructuring, devolution of power and state police reverberating across the country during public hearings on the review of the 1999 Constitution, a social media influencer, Japhet Omojuwa, has highlighted a “missing” item during the process.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Omojuwa said stakeholders at the zonal hearings were concerned about political structure above production.

He said the various proposals at the hearings were devoid of how to create wealth and increase productivity of the citizenry.

“Constitutional review, everyone’s father wants their own state or their own local government. Nothing about how to create wealth. Nothing about ideas to increase productivity and revenue base. It’s all about how to take out of a measly national cake,” he tweeted.

Recall that the National Assembly had urged Nigerians to show up at the various review so as to add their voices to issues that will move the country forward.

THE WHISTLER reported that issues of equal representation at the National Assembly, State Creation, Derivation, 1963 constitution and clamour for a new constitution dominated the discourse among stakeholders.

Many Twitter users found Omojuwa’s comments provocative and couldn’t resist adding their own thoughts.
