Onaiwu Asks Northern Govs To Emulate Zulum To Tackle Insecurity In Region

Governors from Nigeria’s northeast have been advised to emulate Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum’s approach to governance in order to tackle insecurity in the region.

The Chairman of Governors’ Mandate, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, in a statement on Tuesday, said the northern governors can rid the region of insecurity if they embrace Zulum’s style of governance.

Onaiwu said this after the Borno governor personally visited the scene of Monday’s attack on travelers who were stranded at Auno, a town 20 kilometres from Maiduguri, by Boko Haram insurgents.

Zulum was said to have reprimanded the garrison commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole and criticized the military for allegedly leaving the travelers at the insurgents’ mercy.

Onaiwu, while commending Zulum, expressed confidence that the north can be free of insecurity if other northern governors should emulate him.

He noted that without peace the region would not have a meaningful development.

Onaiwu said it was high time that governors respected their oath of offices by touching the lives of the people in their respective states.

“Zulum has demonstrated that good governance is achievable. His approach to governance is worthy of emulation. I charged the other governors from the North East, who have the welfare of their people at heart to emulate what the Borno state governor is doing.

“The people deserve care and the Borno state governor is showing it. This is not too much for other governors to do. Zulum has demonstrated courage in the face of insecurity and if other governors from the North East should imitate him, the security challenges in the region would have been a thing of the past.

“The other governors should encourage and join hands with him to root out insecurity in the region. By so doing, these daredevils will be eliminated from that region and the spread will be contailed,” he said.
