Ondo Boils Over Removal of Jegede As PDP Candidate

It would be recalled that INEC, on Thursday evening, refused to recognise Eyitayo Jegede as the Ondo state governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after it replaced him with Jimoh Ibrahim of the Ali Modu Sheriff-led PDP faction.

The election body claimed that it followed rule of law in picking Jimoh Ibrahim instead of Jegede as candidate of the party.

As a result of INEC’s decision, major highways in Akure have reportedly been blocked by the protesters who deemed Jegede of the Ahmed Makarfi-led PDP faction as the rightful candidate of the party.

Meanwhile, the Ondo state Police Command has urged the residents to remain calm, assuring them of their safety from the violent protest.

“We are aware and our men are on their way to the scene, I will speak with you more later as the incident develops, Femi Joseph, the command’s spokesperson said.

“We are trying to coordinate our men so that the incident will not escalate,” he added.
