Akeredolu and Ajayi eventually won the governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress .

They later fell apart and the deputy left the party for the Peoples Democratic Party where he is seeking to contest the coming governorship poll against his boss or whoever wins the APC ticket.

He said he thought making Ajayi is running mate was a good choice but he had discovered that he made a mistake which he was now regretting.

He said despite the criticisms from many quarters and claims that Ajayi is his cousin, he stood his ground but he eventually turned against him.

Akeredolu however said the deputy governor’s exit from the APC was a blessing because such was needed for him to perform well in the coming election.

He said, ” His exit is a cleansing that is needed for a better performance of the APC in Ondo State.”

He thanked Ajayi’s kinsmen for not leaving the party with Ajayi. He urged them to continue to support the party, saying their action had shown that Ajayi was not popular even at his base.
