Ondo Poll: Makinde Visits Mimiko Again, Seeks Support For Jegede

Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, has visited former Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, again to convince him to support the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) in the coming governorship poll.

Jegede was appointed as the. Commissioner for justice and attorney general by Mimiko when he was the governor and he ( Jegede) held the portfolio for eight years..

Sources told journalists on Friday that Makinde visited Mimiko at his residence in Ondo city where they met from around 9pm to 11:20pm.

Mimiko was also instrumental to his emergence as PDP governorship candidate in 2016. Jegede eventually lost to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and after that the relationship between the former governor and Jegede became frosty.

Determined to ensure that the PDP wins more state in the South-West, Makinde, who is the only PDP governor in the region visited Mimiko to lobby him to support Jegede in the October 10 election.

The Oyo State Governor had earlier visited Mimiko on June 26 to support Jegede despite that the former governor is now the leader of the Zenith Labour Party.

Although the details of the latest meeting between Makinde and Mimiko were not made public, sources close to the political actors said the Oyo State governor came to convince the Ondo born politician to support Jegede.

Recall that the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, who defected to the PDP from the ruling All Progressives Congress lost the sole PDP ticket to Jegede.

Ajayi is believed to have got the Mimiko’s to contest on the platform of the ZLP as its governorship candidate in the coming poll.
