Onnoghen: Protest Rocks NBA Secretariat Over CJN’s Suspension

Some protesters have taken to the National secretariat of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja, in objection to President Muhmmadu Buhari’s suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen as Nigeria’s Chief Justice.

The protesters, who comprise members of the National Interest Defenders and Lawyers in Defense of Democracy, are asking the NBA to order lawyers across the country to down their tools to protest the alleged illegal suspension of Onnoghen.

Recall that President Buhari had on Friday suspended Onnoghen over allegations of false assets declaration. As a result, the President installed an acting Chief Justice in the person of Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed.

But objecting move, the protesters picketed the NBA secretariat carrying placards with various inscriptions such as: “Tanko Mohammed, stop parading yourself as CJN;” “NBA must act now by ordering lawyers to down tool;” “Amaechi, El-Rufai, Akpabio, Malami, APC: brains behind Onnoghen’s trial;” “NJC must reconvene now and expel Justice Tanko Mohammed,” among others.

THE WHISTLER had reported earlier that men of the Nigeria police were said to have sealed the embattled CJN’s office on Monday and sacked all administrative staff from the building.
