The fire which started at about 1:30pm from an air conditioner in an apartment inside the palace, destroyed furniture and other household items.

Recall also that the incident happened few days after the Lagos’ monarch snubbed the Ooni after he approached him (Oba Akiolu) to greet him.

Shortly after the fire incident, speculations had it that the Ooni was behind the unfortunate occurrence.

However, a statement issued by the Ooni’s official clarified that the incident had nothing to do with the relationship of the two monarchs.

The spokesperson of the Ooni’s palace, Moses Olafare, said that Ooni Ogunwusi is unhappy with the fire incident.

“We are not happy over the fact that the palace of Lagos king got burnt, we can only sympathise with the palace on the development,” he said.

“People are entitled to their own view. But what people say doesn’t mean that is the position of the palace.

“What happened is mere coincidence and should not be traced to the incident in Lagos, we send our sympathies,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ooni of Ife, speaking yesterday in Port Harcourt, denied that he has any problem with the Oba Akiolu.

“We did not have a problem. It is being overblown by the media. Like I said, I respect him. I had a relationship with him when I was a prince and when I was an entrepreneur in Lagos. I will continue to respect him.

“It is very unlikely that you will see a successful Nigerian that has not passed through Lagos. So, give honour to whom honour is due,” he said.
