OPC Launches Attack On Suspected Terrorists Inside Oyo National Park, Recovers AK-47 Rifles

The Oodua People’s Congress said members of the group have arrested four suspected terrorists at the Old Oyo National Park.

The  Coordinator of OPC in Oyo State,  Rotimi Olumo,  said this in Kisi on Monday.

Olumo added that four AK47 rifles were recovered from the suspected terrorists after a gun battle.

He  said the terrorists and kidnappers that occupied the Old Oyo National Park had been dislodged by members of the OPC.

Olumo said those arrested had been handed over to the police for prosecution.

Olumo said the group handed over the arrested suspects to the  Police Area Commander in Igbeti and that the police officer and some members of the group had brought the weapons and the suspects to the Oyo State Police Headquarters at Eleyele.

The Ààrẹ Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland had recently raised the alarm that foreign terrorists had occupied the Old Oyo National Park, terrorising the people of communities in Oke Ogun and denying them access to forest resources die to their activities.

The OPC coordinator said the Ààrẹ Ona Kankanfo instructed him to relocate to Oke Ogun following the intelligence he got that the area was under the siege of terrorists.

He said, ” We arrested four terrorists at the Old Oyo National Park. We recovered four AK-47 from them. The Area Commander in Igbeti and those who we carried out the operation together with brought the suspects and the guns to the Police Headquarters in Eleyele today”

He thanked the Aare Onakankanfo for giving the OPC  the  information that led to the operation.

The police confirmed the arrest of the suspects but said they were three.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, gave the confirmation  in a text message in response to  the inquiry of our correspondent.

The.message read, “On 20/09/20 at about 7pm, combined team of the police and vigilante groups encountered dare devil bandits in the forest along Igbeti Kisi areas in the hideout of the bandits and three suspects were arrested while some escaped with bullets wounds.

“Four AK 47 rifles were recovered with five magazines and 67 rounds of live ammunition, N78,000, four handsets and assorted charms.”
