Energy Summit Postponed Due To ‘Unforeseen Circumstances’

With seven days left to the second edition of the Power Safety Summit and Exhibition earlier scheduled to hold October 23 to 24, 2018, “unforeseen circumstances” have forced the organisers to shift the event to November.

Chairman of the National Organising Committee (NOC), Gabriel Egede, who cited “unforeseen circumstances beyond (their) control”, gave the new dates for the Summit as November 27 to 28, 2018.

Egede, however expressed confidence that the event, which is expected to attract stakeholders from across the power sector value chain, will be a success.

“The postponement was due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the organisers. However, in spite of the shift in date to accommodate all key participants preparations are still going on to ensure a befitting summit in November.

“While we regret this deferment, we apologise to all stakeholders for this development and the inconveniences this shift in date might have caused them. All is being done by the organisers to host a successful summit, having the total comfort of the sponsors, speakers and participants central to our goal.

“The Summit (will) witness the gathering of key players and CEOs of power utility companies, from across the globe, HSE professionals, engineers, top government functionaries, regulatory agencies, the organised private sector, end users of electricity and other critical stakeholders to appraise issues of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) in the power sector value chain.

“During the talk-shop participants would appraise and recommend the best global practices on how to mitigate incidences, accidents and fatalities in the power sector.

“Organisers of the summit are conscious of the challenges of managing an ever expanding industry like the power sector with regards to safety of investors’ equipment, safety of the operators, as well as safety of consumers.

“The Summit is endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC), and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

“Others are the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC), Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), License Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) and Electricity Meter Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (EMMAN).

“Confirmed speakers for the Summit are, the Honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, Prof. Louis Edozien, Permanent Secretary (Power), Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Professor of Robotics Engineering and former Minister of Power Professor. Barth Nnaji, the Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation and Managing Director, Chief Executive Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) Engr. (Sir) Peter Ewesor, FNSE, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Professor. James A.
