Orlu: Police Arrest Officers ‘Caught’ Maltreating Curfew Violators

Police officers seen in a viral video violently hitting defaulters of the curfew imposed on Orlu town by the Imo State Government have been arrested.

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Mohammed, ordered arrest of the officers following the outrage that greeted the viral video which surfaced online on Wednesday.

In the said video, the officers were seen flogging and hitting the curfew defaulters with sticks and guns, while others were asked to do frog jump.

The Imo police spokesperson, Ikeokwu Godson Orlando, said the police command would ensure that the erring officers were made to face disciplinary actions.

The statement reads: “The Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Nasiru Mohammed, has condemned the inhuman treatment and assault on some yet-to-be identified persons at Banana Junction, Orlu, by some officers of the command, as seen in a viral video, and ordered the arrest of the officers involved in the infraction.

“The command, while condemning the actions of the officers, wishes to inform the general public that the officers have been identified, arrested and it has commenced disciplinary actions against them accordingly.

The state Governor, Hope Uzodinma, had declared a dusk till dawn curfew in Orlu and eight neighboring local government areas to restore law and order after a clash between Nigerian soldiers and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
