The governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole has ordered the sack of the State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Finihan Adeoye, over his refusal to compromise the upcoming gubernatorial elections.

Adeoye, who replaced Mr. Chris Ezike about three weeks ago and was saddled with the responsibility of coordinating security arrangements for the governorship election on September 28, was removed over his disagreement with Oshiomhole on the use of police personnel before and on the day of election, the Nigerian Pilot reports.

According to reports, the governor had taken offence that the commissioner was not in support of the recent indiscriminate arrest and detention of members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The PDP candidates arrest was said to be ordered by the governor as part of plans to manipulate the election in favour of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

It was learnt that the commissioner’s objection had drastically reduced the planned onslaught on PDP members and also made the release of the detained members prompt and relatively easy.

The disposition of the commissioner had made the governor uncomfortable which prompted him to appeal to higher quarters from where the order for his removal was made.
