Osinbajo Makes U-Turn On 2017 Budget Signing

Osinbajo was expected to sign the Budget into law by 9am on Thursday, the news Agency of Nigeria reports.

However, a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, revealed that consultations are still ongoing between the Presidency and National Assembly, ultimately ruling out the possible signing of the Budget on Thursday.

It was learnt earlier on Wednesday that a team from the presidency had met with the leadership of the legislature where it was disclosed that the budget would be signed the next day.

The But later in the evening, the leadership of the national assembly was informed that the exercise would no longer go on as planned, TheCable reports.

The national assembly passed the budget on May 11, less than five months after it was presented by President Muhammadu Buhari. The Appropriation Bill was transmitted to the presidency on May 18.
