Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is set to be conferred with an award for ‘Effective Leadership’ at a ceremony where Vice President, Yemi Osinabajo, will grace as special guest of honour.
The award is coming amidst serious allegations of corruption recently levelled against Ganduje, of which the governor was seen in several video clips allegedly receiving chunks of dollars as kickbacks from contracts he awarded to some government contractors.
According to organizers of the award, the governor would be receiving the award alongside other esteemed politicians and captains of industries who have been billed for different awards.
“In the last three years, the Ganduje-led administration has been able to make significant strides towards implementing our development agenda to ensuring that Kano people enjoy the dividends of change.
“Not only that, development programmes are evenly spread across the state in terms of infrastructure development in the areas of road construction/rehabilitation, education, health, water supply, environmental protection, agriculture, economy etc,” Vanguard quoted the organizers as saying.
Among those to be recognized in different award categories are the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for African traditional ICON of the year, Heritage Bank’s CEO, Ifie Sekibo, former president of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the Chairman of Atlas Petroleum International Limited, Arthur Eze, as well as the Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), Babatunde Fowler.
