Osun Cancels Eid-el-Kabir Prayers, Okays Friday Jumaat in Mosques

Osun State Government has announced the cancellation of the Eid-el- Kabir congregational prayers for this year.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mr Wole Oyebamiji,.said this on a statement on Tuesday.

He said the state was still recording rising cases of confirmed COVID-19 and would not want the situation to become worse.

Oyebamiji stated that the government would not relent in its fight to curb the spread of the virus.

The state however said the congregational Jummat prayers which would fall on the same day would be allowed to hold.

He said, ” The State cannot afford the impact of any form of large gatherings such as the kind expected at praying grounds and the associated difficulties of enforcing the safety protocols against COVID-19.

“Our health managers are also worried by the recent surge in active cases and have warned that the state could experience galloping figures due to the continued disobedience of safety protocols if it allows any kind of specially high-density gatherings or congregation.

“The state government does not want its citizens exposed to this dangerous infection, especially among the aged and those with underlying health conditions.”
