Our Executive Director Mistaken For Terror Financier On UAE List – 9Mobile

Telecommunications company, 9Mobile, has denied involvement of one of its executive directors with terrorism.

This came after the United Arab Emirates designated six Nigerians and others as sponsors of terrorism.

Following the UAE’s announcement of one Abdurrahaman Ado Musa among 38 alleged terror financiers, some social media users had deduced that 9Mobile’s Executive Director of Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, Abdulrahman Ado, was same as the person listed by the Western Asia country.

The Nigerian nationals designated as alleged terror financiers are: Salihu Yusuf Adamu (Nigeria), Bashir Ali Yusuf (Nigeria), Muhammed Ibrahim Isa (Nigeria), Ibrahim Ali Alhassan (Nigeria), Surajo Abubakar Muhammad (Nigeria), whose name, 9mobile said sounded similar to that of its Executive Director of Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, Abdulrahman Ado, with an exception of “Musa”.

But 9mobile, in disclaimer released via the company’s Facebook page on Tuesday, stated that similarity in name did not amount to similarity in personality, adding that its company executive was a patriotic Nigerian as against the one indicted by the UAE authorities.

“We wish to inform the general public that a purported news story circulating in sections of the online media mistaking a certain Abdulrrahman Ado Musa who is allegedly reported to be a designated terror financier by the UAE is not 9mobile’s Executive Director of Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, Abdulrahman Ado.

“For the avoidance of any doubt, 9mobile’s Executive Director of Regulatory Affairs does not bear the name ‘Musa’. The resemblance in the name is purely coincidental.

“9mobile’s Abdulrahman Ado is a law-abiding and highly distinguished Nigerian of impeccable character,” it stated in a press release floated on its official Facebook page on Tuesday.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that the UAE Cabinet designated 38 individuals, including six Nigerians and 15 entities as persons and organisations supporting terrorism.

The Emirates News Agency quoted the UAE government as stating that “the resolution underscores the UAE’s commitment to target and dismantle networks that finance terrorism and its related activities.”
