Ousted Mali President Hospitalised

Ousted President of Mali, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, was taken to a hospital in Bamako for medical check-up on Tuesday.

Recall that soldiers had released the former president from detention on August 27.

They had staged a military coup against the civilian government.

A source closed to his family told Reuters on Wednesday that he was being hospitalised.

“He was indeed hospitalised last night for a check-up he should have done a month and a half ago and hadn’t done,” the source said.

Keita’s release from detention was due to pressures from the Economic Community of West African States and other International bodies.

ECOWAS Heads of State had also called for a return to constitutional order within 12 months.
