Over 105 Doctors Resigned From Ondo State Teaching Hospital-NMA

No fewer than 105 medical doctors have resigned their employment from the Ondo State Teaching Hospital in the last twelve months.

Recall that Medical doctors in the service of the state government had earlier complained over the issues of salary cut and unpaid wages by the state government.

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in statement on Monday lamented the continued decline, and irregular payment of salaries by the state government.

The statement which was signed by the State Chairman, NMA, Stella Adegbehingbe, and State Secretary, Olorunfemi Owa stated, “It is troubling to note that only three House Officers are left in the service of the Ondo State Government across the three senatorial zones in the state.

“We have it on good records that about 105 medical doctors have resigned their employment from the Teaching Hospital in the last year alone.”

According to the statement, the state government has not been able to engage requisite numbers of House Officers since 2019.

It further stated that the few number of doctors at work, pose a set back to the Contributory Health Insurance Scheme in the state.

“This has made our work almost impossible because this group of doctors have a peculiar role in health service delivery.

“There is no gainsaying that the ongoing laudable efforts at having a Contributory Health Insurance Scheme in the state can only be successful if the urgent issue of manpower need is adequately addressed,” it reads.
